Gold Coast Marathon Weekend 2025

Video

Shot for RUNFLY RUN CLUB · Gold Coast, July 2025

This one was shot for Runfly Runclub. In July 2025 a large group of us flew up to the Gold Coast to take on the half marathon, the full marathon, and some tackling both, known as the Double. I ran the full only (only even...).

Travelling up together as a crew was special, it made it feel like something bigger than an individual race. There was a real sense of being a team before anyone had even started running, so I brought a camera along and ended up shooting a lot more footage than I expected to.

The music featured in the edit were two Bicep songs I was vibing to at the time, and they ended up laying out the blueprint to capture the energy of the weekend better than I could have planned for. My approach to editing this one was to let the music lead. I was engulfed in two full days of flow state, sifting through the footage and lining clips up in chronological order. Partway through that process it became obvious the weekend broke down into its own natural acts, so the final video is structured around six of them. If I had proper footage from the actual race, that would have earned its own act too.

The Acts

  • Act One: The Carb Up
  • Act Two: The Expo
  • Act Three: The Shakeout
  • Act Four: Gemelli
  • Act Five: Pre Race
  • Act Six: Triumph

My favourite part of the video is the start of act six (4:13). The song playing is Night of Arará by Miki Ikhifa and Nubalix, and it was playing at the restaurant while I was filming. I later had to ask the worker there what playlist she was playing because it was so good - it was a radio mix based on RUBII. Anyway, I let the real audio play in the edit before fading the studio track in over the top. I wanted to capture being engulfed in the immaculate vibes - the golden hour of sunset, the crew sharing our achievements, and debriefing over some delicious poke bowls right before we all headed to the Runfly afterparty. We found out afterwards that Poke Poke in Mermaid Beach was closing down permanently, so I'm glad the moment gets to live on in the video forever.
